I think that all my neighbors have the same typical problems I have with my home. I doubt they know what can be done through Energy Upgrade California and how much it will change their lives. My house is so comfortable now, it’s unbelievable.

Progressive Insulation & Windows (Progressive), a participating contractor in Energy Upgrade CA, recently performed extensive testing for Canoga Park homeowner, Bruce Loria, making an initial projection of 42% energy savings. But, due to the excellent workmanship of the Progressive team, the final energy audit results showed an actual reduction of energy use of 53% - promising to lower Loria’s utility bills 53% and qualifying him to receive $5,280.00 in incentive rebates. Other utility rebates and a federal tax credit of $500.00 bring the financial package available to over $6,000.00.

As a first step, Loria invited Progressive to come to his home to develop a Home Profile. The Home Profile clarifies the unique needs of the home through a detailed inspection and assesses the opportunities for improvement. Every house is different, but Progressive found many opportunities to make the Loria home more energy efficient and more comfortable. Additionally, because of asbestos ducting in the attic and leaks from the attic into the living areas, Progressive was able to make the home healthier for the family.

Loria next set the goals he wanted to achieve within the budget he had established. Since his Home Profile showed that he would qualify for top level incentive rebates, he was able to stretch his dollar and do much more than he had originally intended. Some of the opportunities for improvement that Progressive’s inspection had uncovered were: insufficient attic insulation, absolutely no wall insulation, a very leaky house and leaky duct system, and the health issue of the presence of asbestos. Windows were also old and leaked severely. “You could hear the windows rattle even in a mild wind,” Loria said.

This home is typical of other homes in the Canoga Park/West Hills area. Loria was so elated with the results he wanted to help get the word out to his neighbors. “I think that all my neighbors have the same typical problems I have with my home. I doubt they know what can be done through Energy Upgrade California and how much it will change their lives. My house is so comfortable now, it’s unbelievable,” Loria said.

In conjunction with Progressive, Loria put on a block party and a home tour, asking Energy Upgrade CA personnel to come to help get the word out. Energy Upgrade CA uses many means to communicate to homeowners the potential to reduce energy usage in their homes, and has found this to be an increasingly welcome message to homeowners as the cost of energy continues to increase.

Steve Anderson, president of Progressive, said, “Bruce’s home is surrounded by homes of similar age and style. Most likely, they all have similar potential for cutting their utility bills, and increasing the comfort of their homes and the quality of their lives by improving the quality of the air they breathe. Progressive values the opportunity to help homeowners in this way.”
