About the Green Alliance

The Green Alliance was born from a synergy of environmental activism and business ingenuity. Director Sarah Brown wanted to create an organization that would influence, inspire and reward both businesses and consumers to make better choices. As a journalist, Brown thought it was important to help small businesses in Maine and NH get the word out about their environmental leadership and encourage consumers to support the businesses in their community that were having the least environmental impact. In just 18 months, the Green Alliance has attracted 83 businesses from Newburyport, MA to Portland, ME across the industry spectrum. In addition to providing businesses with green certification, branding and promotion, the GA is also a community co-op currently boasting 1,000 card-carrying members.
