With the Internet, social media and smartphones in an increasing number of patient and Care Team members’ hands, health care organizations and ACOs must skillfully navigate multiple communication channels while ensuring they are HIPAA compliant and secure. Successful health care organizations that embrace social networks such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, will have a market advantage as they leverage these tools to meet payer requirements for providing population health management.

“Watching the technological evolution of the health care industry has been an amazing journey,” stated Susan Nedza, MD, MBA, FACEP, emergency medicine specialist and Vice President of Strategic Clinical Solutions at HealthyCircles. “Yet, so many hospitals and health care professionals I meet with don’t know how to leverage this technology in a secure manner to benefit their patients and their practices.”

New technology always brings along its share of hurdles. Yet, by leveraging tools that allow organizations and health care professionals to target a specific patient population while engaging them with tools that will better their care seems to not only be a win for the patient, but for the health care professionals as well. At the end of the day, patients want to know their information is secure with easy access to care while health care professionals seek the opportunity to lower their readmission rates and decrease their already overburdened workload. Technology, especially social media, is the solution.

“The idea to connect health care professionals and organizations to their patients via social media is an innovative and powerful concept,” stated Adam Pellegrini, Director of Marketing and Online Strategy at HealthyCircles. “Now, it is possible to engage current and new patients through online technology that is securely built and delivered. The power to leverage multiple marketing channels, including social media, to engage patients is an ingredient to adoption success.”
