Clearly Contacts Gets Employee Engines Revving By Giving Them A Car

When workplace morale is at an all time low throughout the recession, Clearly Contacts has come up with a unique way to keep employees motivated. Clearly Contacts Co-Founder and CEO Roger Hardy decided to reward hard working employees with a car for 90 days.

Vancouver, British Columbia (Vocus/PRWEB ) May 18, 2009 -- When workplace morale is at an all time low throughout the recession, Clearly Contacts has come up with a unique way to keep employees motivated. Clearly Contacts Co-Founder and CEO Roger Hardy decided to reward hard working employees with a car for 90 days.

The innovative employee program at Clearly Contacts encourages some friendly competition and offers up a fairly desirable prize. The concept of the "Mini Program" is simple- an employee works extra hard, contributes more than their peers, and they are rewarded with one of five Clearly Contacts Mini Coopers.

"I went on vacation in Italy a few years ago and took a tour of a car factory. On the tour I noticed display boards in each department with the name of each employee listed. Key metrics for the department were listed along the side to illustrate what excellent performance would consist of. These boards made it blatantly obvious which employees were producing the most, and which ones needed some motivation," describes Hardy.

Hardy loved the idea and immediately put this chart system into action when he arrived back to the Clearly Contacts office. The system rewards core values based activities with performance points that all team members in the department can see.

"The ways in which employees can earn points are communicated regularly at weekly team meetings where 'stars' are placed on the boards. Just like a gold star chart in elementary school," Hardy explains.

Clearly Contacts has a results oriented culture where employees know if they are making a contribution and how it's viewed. At the end of each quarter the employee in each department with the most stars is rewarded. Of course, being that the idea came from a car factory, the reward is a fully paid Mini Cooper for 90 days.

"They love it. We have seen people really step up in the company to win a car. Even if they come in second, they are surprised by what they have been able to accomplish and are motivated to try again next quarter," adds Hardy.

Over 50 Coastal Contacts employees have taken home one of 5 mini coopers for a 3 month period so far in the program.
