New York, NY (Billboard Publicity Wire/PRWEB ) September 4, 2006 -- Recording artist Earnest Pugh received "Male Vocalist of the Year" nod at the 1st Annual En Sound Music Awards on Saturday, August 19, 2006 as his album continues to climb the Billboard® chart this week, positioning himself at #35 and #20 on Praise & Worship chart. The event that was hosted by comedian RodZ and drew a large crowd, took place at the Robert Treat Hotel in downtown Newark, New Jersey hailed as one of the best gospel music events to have taken place so far this year.
Earnest Pugh collected his trophy immediately following his stunning performance of the song, "Holy Spirit" that had the audience on their feet and in awe at this young man's God-given vocal range. Newly signed to Michigan based Crystal Rose Records, Pugh's debut CD "A Worshipper's Perspective" which was produced by Lonnie Hunter and Keith Williams with Pugh sharing co-production credit, is one that gospel music fans will be playing for years to come. This CD is a reflection of God's goodness through songs of faith encouragement, praise and worship. This psalmist, musician and songwriter is primed to take the industry by storm with a five-octave range, amazing vocal control and an unapologetic anointing.
His pursuit has opened doors for major appearances on such networks as the Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) and Black Entertainment Television (BET), including one of BET’s top rated shows, Bobby Jones Gospel. His career wasn’t just limited to that of singing, but he quickly found that he had a talent for acting as well that opened doors for him to make appearances in major stage plays such as “Love The One You’re With”, “Secret Lover”, “Why Good Girls Like Bad Boys”, “Crazy Love” and “Real Men Pray”. As a matter of fact, Pugh was also a featured soloist on a number of the tracks on the soundtrack of "Real Men Pray". I have Lizzie Berry and Lydia Wright to thank for pushing me to stay the course and eventually it paid off.”
This rising DC star has Received raved reviews at the Gospel Music Workshop of America for performances at the National Evangelist Board Meeting, the Nightly Musical and Neily Dickerson’s N.D. Company Showcase. According to WPGC Heaven 1580 Music Director, Cheryl Jackson...”Pugh wrecked the place so bad, as the opener, there was literally no order in the place after he finished. Why would they put him as the opener in the first place? That alone was asking for trouble!”
Earnest will be in attendance at the United Christian Artist Association's conference in Baltimore, MD which starts August 31-September 2 that also includes Pastor Donnie McClurkin, Joey Kibble, Hallerin Hill and others. On August 31, Tehillah Enterprises sponsored the UCAA Unsigned Gospel Artist Showcase with Pugh being one of the guest judges along with, Heaven 1580AM’s Program Director, Cheryl Jackson, VGR Entertainment’s head, Elder Vikki Johnson and Showcase Host Lee Michaels, Program Director of Baltimore’s Heaven 600.
Earnest Pugh is the Director of Praise & Worship at Ebenezer African Methodist Episcopal Church in Fort Washington, MD under the leadership of Rev. Drs. Grainger and Jo Ann Browning. Pugh is originally from Memphis, TN where his career began as a member of gospel recording artist O’landa Draper & Associates. After serving in the military for 15-years, Pugh landed a tour with a major stage play. That exposure connected him to now GospoCentric Recording Artist Byron Cage who encouraged Pugh, originally from Central Texas, to join the Music Department of Ebenezer A.M.E. Church in DC in August 2000.
In the words of Byron Cage, “You rarely find a male singer who possesses vocal prowess and anointing, but Earnest combines the two. This one’s a winner.” And according to Award Winning Vicki Winans, "Bad boy...watch out for this one!" This debut CD on Crystal Rose Records/EPM Music Group is sure to usher the country into the next dimension of worship. Earnest pugh is a rare talent that can sing his way into the hearts of anyone and everyone. Just take a listen to his brand new CD and you'll hear what makes him a special gift from God.
