Mendix, the global leader in model-driven application development, has been named a "Cool Vendor" in the report "Cool Vendors in Application Development, New Tools, 2009" by leading industry research firm Gartner. The report identifies cool vendors and their products that represent key trends, directions and emerging best practices in application development.
"We're thrilled to have Gartner's endorsement as a "Cool Vendor" which we believe is an acknowledgement of the unparalleled innovation that Mendix has brought to market for flexible, next-generation business applications (SOBAs)," states Mendix CEO and co-founder, Derek Roos.
"Mendix provides a model-driven approach towards solution development, which means we engage business analysts in the modeling process and bring new solutions 4x faster to market than traditional development methods", adds Roos. "These features coupled with long-term agility, significant cost-savings and reduced project risk explain why customers are rapidly adopting our breakthrough technology."
The report notes that, "Mendix provides a model runtime environment, which means it does not provide code generation - the model is fully executable. As development projects and processes deal with complex business problems and large quantities of information, the translation of the business need into a tangible design addresses a major source of project failure and are at the root of many development project horror stories."
According to Gartner, "Development managers and business analysts should develop new methods for successfully deploying applications built with newer, more-complex tools and processes." In the report, Gartner selected vendors that have "cool" approaches to application development, and, specifically, the management, specification and quality delivery of complex development projects.
Gartner says, "Mendix recognized the benefits of combining the model-driven approach with agile practices. The focus on SOBAs will interest business analysts and solution architects, who will welcome working at the higher levels of abstraction. Development managers looking for fast solutions with control and an overall reduction in total cost of ownership should also investigate Mendix's approach."
