Jefferson County, Ala., Launches E-recording with Simplifile

Alabama Expands Simplifile E-recording in Jefferson County

This is another technological step forward for the attorneys & citizens throughout Jefferson County...to record land & public records in a convenient & cost-effective manner. Customers may now e-record certain documents without ever leaving the office.

The Jefferson County Probate office now offers electronic recording of land record documents through Simplifile, the nation’s largest e-recording service, giving customers a faster, more efficient document recording option online.

Judge Alan King, Presiding Probate Judge, said, “We are excited to offer e-recording in Jefferson County, which includes both the Birmingham and Bessemer courthouses. This is another technological step forward for the attorneys and citizens throughout Jefferson County, the state of Alabama, and the United States to record land and public records in a convenient and cost-effective manner. Customers may now e-record certain documents without ever leaving the office.”

Using Simplifile’s secure, web-based service, customers such as attorneys and title offices can now scan or upload documents and submit them electronically to the probate office. In minutes, the documents can be reviewed, recorded, and returned back to the customer.

“Customers no longer have to rely on the mail for recording documents or drive to the courthouse for time-sensitive documents,” said Paul Clifford, president of Simplifile. “E-recording makes the overall recording process much easier and convenient for everyone involved. Plus, it helps to eliminate paper waste and mailing expenses.”

E-recording through Simplifile also makes it easier for customers to correct rejected documents in a timely manner, allowing them to be notified immediately of a rejected document status and have the ability to correct and resubmit them without having to worry about mailing delays.

Increased document security and fewer check-writing expenses are also some of the benefits of e-recording, as recording fees and payments can be processed securely through Simplifile via electronic funds transfer or Automated Clearing House.

Jefferson County is Alabama’s fifth e-recording county and joins more than 1,170 e-recording counties that have also made Simplifile’s e-recording service available to customers.

High-speed Internet access, a PC, and a scanner are the minimum requirements for customers to begin e-recording with Simplifile.
