Hayward Gordon brought SYSPRO on board in 1990 after evaluating and testing out several different machinery and equipment ERP solutions, even trying to build their own ERP system. The SYSPRO solution was ultimately chosen for its ability to accommodate the variation of work that Hayward Gordon undertakes. In contrast to other manufacturers that build to stock, Hayward Gordon is more of a job shop and the SYSPRO Bill of Materials (BOM), Work in Progress (WIP), and Requirements Planning modules were an ideal fit for their design and production environment. Hayward Gordon also appreciated SYSPRO’s ability to integrate different business silos as well as its robust and reliable support infrastructure.

Since implementing SYSPRO two decades ago, Hayward Gordon continues to expand its use of the ERP system to meet its lean manufacturing goals and handle the challenges of the rising Canadian dollar. By implementing electronic time-tracking in the shop, the manufacturer has been able to automate its processes and eliminate one data entry position. Hayward Gordon has also integrated the SYSPRO ERP software with their Microsoft Customer Relationship Management (CRM) program to automate order entry and eliminate the need for duplicate data entries. The manufacturer has also taken advantage of the fact that SYSPRO allows for different processes to run concurrently, allowing them to compress their lead times and make them increasingly reliable. The switch to the electronic setup that using SYSPRO’s ERP affords has reduced paper trails and time lost waiting for different departments to approve orders. With SYSPRO, it is all done automatically and allows for Hayward Gordon to quickly identify problem orders and take action, helping to better serve their customers while also making their internal teams more efficient.

“Getting more out of SYSPRO has allowed us to expand without breaking apart at the seams. We've seen our revenue per employee increase by around sixty-five percent in the past four years,” says Hayward. “You can't do that unless you build into your company the ability to grow sales without growing costs in lockstep. If you don't have the right infrastructure in place, your sales can even cost more to make than they're worth. That's what productivity is about – if you have the right systems in place it gives your company extra capacity, without adding costs.
