In the October 2007 "Best New Restaurants" issue of Phoenix Magazine on Essence Bakery the author writes: "...and the other-worldly macaron (on the cover), an intensely chocolate sandwich cookie that proves once and for all why the French rule the culinary roost. In the December 2008 issue of Departures Magazine, food writer Charlotte Druckman evaluated macarons from 29 of the world's most popular purveyors in New York, Brooklyn, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, New Orleans, New Hampshire, London and Paris, putting together a "baker's dozen" of her favorites. In a footnote, she added that she would "forego the entire box in exchange for one hefty caramel macaron from Essence Bakery Café in Tempe, Arizona."

Essence Macaron offers the following flavors in both small and large sizes:

•     Pumpkin Spice - The flavor tastes just like that special pumpkin pie flavor; sweet and savory blended with rich spices. Organic pumpkin combined with brown sugar and European butter, freshly ground nutmeg, cinnamon and ginger to create a creamy pumpkin filing sandwiched between a delicately flavored orange spice Macaron.
•     Hazelnut - A milk chocolate Ganache that blends the finest European hazelnut praline, freshly ground toasted hazelnuts and milk chocolate. This creamy and intense nut flavor is sandwiched between macarons enhanced with ground hazelnuts.
•     Mint Chocolate - This tastes like fresh mint combined with dark chocolate like never before. Fresh, organic mint is steeped and blended into a delicious mint cream. •     Organic Vanilla Bean - A true vanilla bean flavor. A rich custard made with whole milk, eggs and organic vanilla beans and then combine it with European butter, organic sea salt and dark rum to round out the rich vanilla profile.
