A national survey of married people, commissioned by extra-marital dating agency IllicitEncounters.com, has found that Essex is home to the UK's least sexually-satisfied spouses.

A great number of those living in Essex commute to London for work; that means long hours spent away from home, and less time spent enjoying and strengthening a relationship.

A national survey of 4,000 married people has shown Essex to be the home of the UK's least sexually-satisfied spouses.

The survey, commissioned by extra-marital dating site IllicitEncounters.com, and conducted by OnePoll, found that the majority of Essex spouses rate their sex life at just 5 out of 10 - 3 points below the national average of 8/10.

In addition, 13% of Essex respondents report that they have sex less than 3 times a year (only 9.5% of all those questioned reported the same). 4% of Essex spouses also said they were "unhappy" in their relationship - nationally this figure is just 1%.

Sara Hartley, representative from IllicitEncounters.com, believes the figures may have something to do with the working habits of Essex people. "A great number of those living in Essex commute to London for work; that means long hours spent away from home, and less time spent enjoying and strengthening a relationship."

"If you've just spent over an hour on public transport, unable to wind down from your busy day, sex is not going to be the first thing on your mind."

Despite many couples in Essex being unhappy, the survey also revealed they come in below the national average when it comes to cheating; only 7% of respondents from the area admitted that they had been unfaithful to their current partner, compared with 10% of the entire UK.

IllicitEncounters.com is the UK's largest married dating site, with in excess of 450,000 members. For more statistics relating to sex and marriage in Essex, please contact Rosie Freeman-Jones on presspr(at)illicitencounters(dot)co(dot)uk.
