San Francisco Bay Area Estate Planning Attorney Uses Pyramids to Plan Legacy

The Law Offices of Julia P. Wald in the San Francisco Bay Area recently started an online monthly newsletter for the public. The newsletter’s technique is to contrast the purposes of modern estate planning with the legacies left by classic cultures.

Ancient Egyptians achieved immortality by building the pyramids, but modern families need estate planning to create their legacy.

San Francisco Bay Area attorney Julia P. Wald has begun an online monthly estate planning newsletter that provides topical information regarding wills, trusts, and other tools. The current issue contrasts the efforts of ancient Egyptians to achieve immortality through cultural legacies with modern families struggling to provide a more modest legacy to their heirs through estate planning.

“I hope this newsletter opens ideas in your mind about your legacy,” said Wald, “If you don’t write a will or other estate planning document, your wealth will be distributed as provided by California law.”

In the most recent newsletter, Wald discusses how to get started on estate planning if an individual has not done so already. She states the best way to start is to make an appointment to conduct a full estate plan. In the interim, she urges individuals to sit down with a paper and pen, write the date and what exactly what you want to happen to all the assets you have worked hard to earn and save.

Components of estate planning may include a living trust, will, Power of Attorney for finances and a Durable Power of Attorney for Health Care/Advanced Health Care Directive.

The newsletter is targeted towards San Francisco Bay Area families whose assets or estate plans have changed in recent years. Wald’s approach uses photos and narratives from her personal travels and she refers to the iconic images as illustrating aspects of estate planning. Her January newsletter featured photos and narratives from her travels to Egypt earlier this year. Next month’s newsletter will contain photos and tie-ins from her exploration of the Galapagos and will explore new changes to estate tax laws.

Additionally, next month’s newsletter will explore chages to estate tax laws which took effect in December. Provisions of the law includes tax-free inheritance of up to $5 million and includes a two-year provision to allow married couples to transfer unused estate tax exclusion to their spouse.

“Estate planning is more than creating a will which is filed away until after death,” said Wald. “Good estate planning may involve creation of a living trust and using other probate strategies. Trusts and Conservatorships may also be created to preserve assets.”

The Law Offices of Julia P. Wald features accredited attorneys in San Rafael who have experience in many aspects of estate planning in the San Francisco Bay Area. Unique issues such as estate planning after divorce or remarriage, domestic partners and other non-traditional family structures, gifts to non-citizen family members, and trusts to pass real estate to heirs are all addressed in Wald’s services.
