Cheney, WA (PRWEB) December 1, 2009
Eastern Washington University (EWU) announced today that it will recognize the Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) for admission of non-native English speakers to both its graduate and undergraduate schools. A regional, comprehensive public university, EWU offers more than 100 fields of study, 10 master's degrees, four graduate certificates, 55 graduate programs and an applied doctorate in physical therapy. The majority of EWU's international students come from Japan, Taiwan, Mexico, Canada, Korea and China.
"An international student thinking about studying at EWU will find affordable graduate programs ranging from the health sciences to education and from creative writing to business administration," said Brian Donahue, Assistant Vice Provost for Graduate Studies. "Recognizing PTE Academic gives our admissions staff a valuable tool for reviewing the English language abilities of our international applicants for graduate study."
EWU's undergraduate and graduate programs have earned numerous accolades for both their academic quality and affordability. "U.S. News and World Report" ranked EWU among the top 10 public master's degree-granting universities in the West, and "Newsweek" magazine named the university a "Best Value for the Tuition Dollar."
"At EWU, we offer our undergraduate international students the opportunity to study in a personalized learning environment in a beautiful part of the Pacific Northwest," said Mark Baldwin, Associate Vice Provost for Undergraduate Studies. "PTE Academic will provide us with a measure of their English language ability that will help us ensure that they can be successful at our university."
Pearson combined the power of international test development, in-depth research and proven, proprietary automated scoring technologies to develop PTE Academic. The test fills a critical need for an accurate measurement of the English language listening, reading, speaking and writing abilities of non-native speakers.
PTE Academic delivers real-life measures of test takers' language proficiency to universities, higher education institutions, government departments and other organizations requiring academic English. The test is designed to predict more efficiently the ability of test takers to function in an English-speaking academic environment.
"EWU is an example of the public and private universities around the world that are joining the growing list of institutions recognizing our new, accurate, state-of-the art assessment of English language abilities," said Mark Anderson, President, Pearson Language Tests. "We look forward to working with the university's graduate and undergraduate admissions staff as they begin to use PTE Academic."
PTE Academic is the preferred English language test of the prestigious Graduate Management Admission Council® (GMAC®), owner of the Graduate Management Admission Test® (GMAT), and is now available to test takers at Pearson's global network of secure testing centers.
