1. Future — Create a vision. Envisioning your company’s future is the first step toward being an effective leader. Above all, your vision must motivate and inspire your team. Creating a vision with your team will provide direction and purpose and help them feel they are a part of something larger than themselves.
2. Followers — Garner support. Once you have created the vision, you can begin to establish a circle of followers united by a common goal. It’s important to communicate the vision so everyone can clearly understand where they’re going and why as well as how they will help your company get there. Clearly defining objectives is essential when rallying your followers, as it helps each individual know what their role is and how they are crucial to the overall success. Then, they can take ownership of meeting the company’s goals and achieving the vision.
3. Focus — Get alignment. Everything in your organization needs to support the fulfillment of the vision. Align every aspect of the organization from the systems to the processes to how the organization is structured. If something doesn’t move you closer to the vision, stop doing it. Focus on the vision makes it easier to make decisions because everyone knows where they’re going and why.
