Exotissimo Travel introduces travelers to local doctors who practice ancient and traditional medicinal techniques in Asia. Guided market tours show the selection of natural ingredients used with the option for guests to then make their own unique tonics under the guidance of a village doctor.

Asia has long been associated and is still well known for its use of traditional medicine techniques. The harvesting of natural products to make home-made remedies is practiced to this day with many remote villages having a ‘village doctor’ who specializes in the practice. Other remedies can be purchased on the street, a custom quite foreign to those coming from more westernized countries and can make for a very interesting encounter. Exotissimo Travel introduces clients to these preserved cultural practices in a number of their programs.

Exotissimo recently launched a program called ‘Local Market & Traditional Medicine – Yogyakarta’. This half day experience takes a closer look at the 1300 year old Javanese herbal medicine techniques. Starting at the local market, a trading place since 1758, guests are treated to a guided tour and introduced to a well known doctor who helps each person concoct their own health tonic from natural ingredients.

In Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, a dedicated museum displays over 3000 items relevant to the development of traditional medicine. Guests can see the herbs as well as ancient medicine books, documents and instruments used by doctors to make the medicines. Exotissimo’s ‘Day in Ho Chi Minh City’ program departs at 8am for a full day visiting the medicinal FITO museum, local markets and the War Remnants or History Museum.

In downtown Yangon, Myanmar, Exotissimo introduces travelers to either Doctor U Shein or Dr Sayagyi U Nyan, both renowned for their use of traditional medicine techniques. The unique technique of mixing gold ash powder with local herbs to cure a number of diseases is revealed in the doctor’s clinic. It is possible for guests to have their very own health check up performed by the doctor. ‘Traditional Medicine in Yangon’ is a half day experience beginning at the market in Kon Zay Dan Street, Yangon.
