Collaborating with the Expect Miracles Foundation on the upcoming awards is a natural fit for American Century Investments given our shared passion for eradicating cancer, a disease that is now the leading cause of death worldwide.
Kansas City, MO (Vocus/PRWEB) February 17, 2011
American Century Investments, sponsor of the 2011 Expect Miracles Awards, has joined forces with the Expect Miracles Foundation (formerly Mutual Funds Against Cancer) in calling for nominations for this year’s awards program. Launched in 2010, the Expect Miracles Awards recognize individuals and firms within the financial community for their outstanding support and commitment to the fight against cancer. The winners will be announced at the 18th Annual Mutual Funds Award Gala, hosted by Institutional Investor on April 7, 2011 at the Mandarin Oriental in New York City.
“Collaborating with the Expect Miracles Foundation on the upcoming awards is a natural fit for American Century Investments given our shared passion for eradicating cancer, a disease that is now the leading cause of death worldwide,” said Jonathan Thomas, president and chief executive officer of American Century Investments. “Through our unique ownership structure, more than 40 percent of our profits support research to find cures for cancer and other gene-based diseases.”
To nominate individuals or financial firms, visit: http://www.ExpectMiraclesFoundation.org. Submissions for the following categories will be accepted through March 7, 2011:
- Corporate Commitment Award: Recognizes a firm that has demonstrated an organizational commitment to the fight against cancer.
- Company for a Cure Award: Recognizes a firm for an innovative initiative or event in the previous year that helped to further cancer awareness and raise funds for cancer-related programs.
- Miracle Maker Leadership Award: Recognizes an individual at an executive or board level who has demonstrated long-standing personal leadership in cancer advocacy.
- Inspiration Contributor Award: Recognizes an individual whose personal efforts helped ensure the success of a cancer-related project, event, or fundraising initiative during the previous year.
At last year’s awards, American Century Investments Founder James Stowers Jr. received the foundation’s Lifetime Achievement Award. A cancer survivor, Stowers and his wife Virginia founded and endowed the Stowers Institute for Medical Research (SIMR), a world-class biomedical research facility committed to finding treatments and cures for gene-based diseases, including cancer.
Separately, American Century Investments received the 2010 Company for a Cure Award for its use of the annual American Century Championship -- a celebrity golf tournament -- to raise awareness of the scourge of cancer, while supporting the LIVESTRONG® Foundation’s cancer survivorship mission.
“Expect Miracles Foundation is honored to partner with American Century Investments, a company that has shown an unwavering commitment to the global fight against cancer,” said Expect Miracles Foundation’s Executive Director Christina E. Thirkell. “American Century Investments truly is ‘in a league of its own’ and clearly sets the bar for industry excellence in corporate responsibility and charitable giving in the cancer realm,” she added.
