TMW Systems Fuel Optimization Webinar Draws Record Crowd

Nearly 200 Transportation Professionals Learned How IDSC ExpertFuel(TM) Helps Reduce High Fuel Costs and Increase Fuel Optimization

BEACHWOOD, Ohio (Business Wire EON/PRWEB ) April 16, 2008 -- Nearly 200 transportation professionals participated last week in a webinar exploring the industrys top technology-based system for managing fuel costs. The April 10 event, sponsored by Transport Topics and presented by TMW Systems, focused on TMWs fuel optimization solution IDSC ExpertFuel.

It was the most widely attended webinar Transport Topics has ever presented not a surprising outcome given the record high fuel prices currently facing the industry. IDSC ExpertFuel, which uses a wide variety of data to develop routing and fuel purchasing plans, has been shown to save users four-to-seven cents per gallon on a consistent basis.

News Image Managing and reducing the cost of fuel has become one of the industrys top priorities, said David McKinney, vice president of professional services for TMW Systems. While IDSC ExpertFuel is well-established and has been available for several years; interest in the product has never been higher. This fact is evidenced by the industry professionals who participated in this webinar, in addition to the dozens of companies who are installing the system even as we speak.

McKinney presented along with Dale Lavin, fuel manager for Cedar Rapids, Iowa-based West Side Transport, a dry van operator with 420 power units and 1,200 trailers focusing on regional, team, long-haul, dedicated and logistical services has been using IDSC ExpertFuel since 1999. Lavin explained how their investment has paid for itself many times over as a result of the savings the system generates.

Trucking companies dont realize how much money they spend unnecessarily by not having a tool like IDSC ExpertFuel, Lavin said. This was a valuable tool for us even in 1999 when the price of diesel fuel was under $1.00(a). Now that weve started to see diesel at $4.00 a gallon, IDSC ExpertFuel is absolutely indispensable.

Lavin and McKinney answered participants questions about the operation and benefits of IDSC ExpertFuel. The fuel optimization system produces routing schemes and fuel-purchasing plans that consider a wide variety of factors, including current fuel prices, fuel level, vehicle fuel consumption, fuel network discounts, state taxes, out-of-route miles, route policies, terminal fueling, tank fill policies and even driver amenities.

Lavin and McKinney also detailed fuel-saving examples from mock trips. One fuel optimization example illustrated a trip from San Bernardino, California, to Statesville, North Carolina, in which IDSC ExpertFuel guided the driver to purchase all the required fuel at or near the low point of a $.15 per gallon price variation experienced along the hypothetical route.

Finally, the presenters explained reporting mechanisms that help ensure compliance and optimal performance.

Recent news on fuel prices only accentuates the need for a tool like IDSC ExpertFuel. On April 7, the U.S. Department of Energy reported that diesel prices have climbed more than $1.17 per gallon in the past 12 months, breaking the $4.00 per gallon mark for the first time in history. The American Trucking Associations (ATA) reports that diesel spending rose 6 percent in 2007 and projects that diesel spending will reach $135 billion in 2008.
