When one is working through the skin and not seeing the tissue beneath directly, it is very important to be knowledgeable about the anatomy underneath the surface, because one has to rely on that knowledge to preform the procedure properly.
Irvine, CA (PRWEB) October 05, 2011
The latest data from the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) shows the most common surgical procedures in 2010 were rhinoplasty, facelift, and blepharoplasty. The most popular nonsurgical procedures were BOTOX® Cosmetic injections and hyaluronic acid. As a facial plastic surgeon in Irvine, CA, Dr. Ali Sepehr says regardless of the fad procedure popular in the media at any time, during each patient’s consultation, he stresses the need for an individualized treatment plan based on their aesthetic enhancement goals and expectations.
Dr. Sepehr says rhinoplasty and facelift are two of the most common procedures at his practice, the Center for Facial Plastic Surgery. Due to the complexity of these surgical procedures, he stresses the need for board certification and fellowship training because of the experience gained during the process. “Medical Boards have strict criteria to ensure competency of their diplomates. Equally as important, is fellowship training. As facial plastic surgeons, my colleagues and I have have spent six years of training (after medical school) exclusively on the face and neck. So that specialized fellowship training signifies that we have chosen to focus our training and dedicate our career to cosmetic and aesthetic surgery of the face and neck, alone.”
As the popularity of nonsurgical cosmetic enhancement continues to increase, Dr. Sepehr says choosing a qualified surgeon with the necessary experience and a comprehensive understanding of the facial structure becomes even more important. “When one is working through the skin and not seeing the tissue beneath directly, it is very important to be knowledgeable about the anatomy underneath the surface, because one has to rely on that knowledge to preform the procedure properly. Facial plastic surgeons can often get more effect with less BOTOX because we know exactly where to inject and don’t have to rely on injecting more, hoping that enough gets to the right spot. Also, this is how we minimize the risk of BOTOX getting to the wrong area and causing unwanted changes. The same goes for injecting fillers into the right structures to get natural and pleasing results.”
While laser resurfacing is not listed among the most popular procedures from 2010, Dr. Sepehr says it is very likely to make the list in 2011. He adds that cutting-edge techniques, such as the SmartSkin Laser Treatment™, present patients with a way to enhance their aesthetic appearance without the need for a surgical procedure. While he admits the results of a procedure like laser resurfacing cannot equal those achieved with more traditional procedures like the facelift, he says the technology is advancing at an amazing pace. “It is essential for us to offer nonsurgical procedures such as the Smartskin Laser Treatment because that is how we are able to present our patients with the most customized treatment options that meet their needs. For example, some patients may not require a face and neck lift if they just have wrinkles without much drooping or sagging. These patients would best be served by a laser treatment and not necessarily an operation. Also there may be patients, such as those with sun damage and brown spots, who can only benefit from the Smartskin Laser Treatment. These patients wouldn’t get any benefit from surgery.”
