Traditionally, to run a thimble, drivers would have to run the rope through and sew it back in on itself. Factor 55 has come up with a new idea; the Factor 55 Prolink thimble is essentially a shackle mount that doesn’t require a splice in. Using a 5/8 titanium double shear pin, the driver takes the rope thimble, slip it in, drop in the pin, and put in a snap ring. Installing in less than a minute, the Prolink works with the steel cable eye as well, providing a safe screw pin shackle mount on the end of the off-roader’s row.

Experts point out the inherently unsafe qualities of the hook. First of all, hooks cut straps; the safety latch on hooks are made out of bent sheet metal. Hooks also can’t fit both ends of a recovery strap, and so drivers end up using a shackle anyway.
Factor 55 winch locks are designed and manufactured using state of the art technology. SolidWorks CAD systems stress-analyze all Factor 55 products at http://www.factor55.com using sophisticated COSMOS Finite Element Simulation software. FEA results allow research and development experts optimize a design concept by adding or removing material or changing material properties to optimize strength and performance.

Developers then validate theoretical results by instrumenting and destructively testing prototypes of all of Factor 55 product designs. This is conducted at a certified test and measurement facility that also conducts National Defense Department rigging and hoist testing.
Al of Factor 55 products are manufactured from aerospace quality materials. Both the ProLink and Winch Lock bolts are manufactured from CNC machined billet material not cheap castings or forgings for Factor 55.
