Fantasy Football Starters announces the winners of its free fantasy football contest, capping an ultra-competitive season that allowed players to square off vs. experts in a weekly matchup for fun, prizes -- and a good cause. Play It Smart, an NFL-sponsored charity, will receive a $1,000 donation on behalf of Grand Prize winner Alan LaFollette of Phoenix, Ariz.

Weekly Line-up Challenge

"We applaud Fantasy Football Starters for recognizing the impact of Play It Smart and wanting to help fuel its growth at the grassroots level,” said Charles Gomes, chief operating officer at Play It Smart.

The Super Bowl is right around the corner, but Fantasy Football Starters.com has already crowned its 2009-10 champion. The company announced today that it is sending $1,000 to Play It Smart, an NFL-sponsored charity that teams student-athletes with an academic coach to strengthen classroom skills and build leadership qualities. The donation is being made on behalf of Alan LaFollette, the winner of the FFS 2009-10 Weekly Lineup Challenge. LaFollette, a 16-year veteran of fantasy football, beat more than 1,200 other weekly players -- including Fantasy Football Starters' own experts -- for the honor.

"We applaud Fantasy Football Starters for recognizing the impact of Play It Smart and wanting to help fuel its growth at the grassroots level,” said Charles Gomes, chief operating officer at Play It Smart, a program of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame. “We’d especially like to congratulate Grand Prize winner Alan LaFollette. This donation will help us continue to support the mission of our program.”

The Fantasy Football Starters.com Weekly Line-up Challenge enabled participants to create and set one free fantasy football line-up challenge roster, each week of the NFL regular season. Players competed against each other and against one of the Fantasy Football Starters.com experts, including nationally known radio host and NFL analyst, Russ Bliss, co-founders Dana Valentine and Simon Chatfield, as well as company CEO Jeff Coruccini. Alan LaFollette's entry, "Baddboyz" won the contest with 3,616.65 total points. Contestants also received bonus points for social media activities like engaging on the forums by posting and responding to other user questions.

"The weekly lineup contest was lots of fun," said Alan, who has been a Power Player at Fantasy Football Starters.com since 2004. "I'm so glad FFS started this contest; it's a great reason for folks to come back to the site, and it's for a great cause. I'll definitely be playing again next year."

In addition to the $1,000 donation to Play It Smart in his name, Alan also will receive a lifetime membership to Fantasy Football Starters.com, as well as a trophy and permanent placement on the FFS Wall of Fame.

“The Super Bowl may be grabbing all the attention this week, but Alan and the other challengers at Fantasy Football Starters.com are all winners in our book,” said the company’s CEO, Jeff Coruccini. “We can’t wait to watch the big game, and we’re already planning our best season ever starting this fall.”
