It's no secret at Vi that one of the keys to feeling happy and well is to remain connected. We are redefining senior living.

Vi at Lakeside Village residents ranging from 75- to 100-years-old took to the catwalk recently as models at a fashion show fundraiser held on behalf of the PAP Corps.
“Strutting their stuff,” as one model said, these fashion statements for the older adults posed, turned, and displayed key features of the latest resort wear from Patchington, which operates 22 specialty boutiques throughout Florida.
“Who says we’re too old?” said one of the resident models. “Move over, Claudia Schiffer!”
Another resident model said of the event, “We don’t like to be called ‘elderly.’ We prefer to be called ‘active.’”
Participating in the charity event held in late October were three models who have just reached the age of 100 – residents Edith Boehm, Fanny Milgrim and Wilma Herbert.
Vi at Lakeside Village, 2792 Donnelly Drive, Lantana, FL, is a continuing care retirement community (CCRC) that is part of Vi, formerly Classic Residence by Hyatt, a leading national developer, owner and operator of adult living communities.
The Pap Corps is the largest all-volunteer organization in the United States dedicated solely to raising money for all types of cancer. In the past 60 years, the organization has raised over $43 million. These funds provide the seed money for vital research programs at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, South Florida’s only university-based cancer center.
“What a sheer delight it is to have the participation of such lovely ladies and Vi at Lakeside Village in helping us to support our cause,” said JoAnne Goldberg, president of the Pap Corps. “It’s obvious from the enthusiasm shown today that we all share the same spirit when it comes to imagining and helping to create a world without cancer.”
The idea for holding the fashion show at Vi at Lakeside Village was that of residents Norma Krolick and Cynthia Weiner and, who last year formed a PAP Corps chapter at the senior living community.
“Boredom is not an option at Vi at Lakeside Village and this is especially true on this special day,” said Weiner.
According to Penny Smith, executive director of Vi at Lakeside Village, social events like today’s fashion show drive the calendar of events at the senior living community.
“It’s no secret at Vi that one of the keys to feeling happy and well is to remain connected,” Smith said. “We’re redefining senior living.”
At Vi, residents are offered services and care with an approach grounded in whole-person wellness. Whole-person wellness is a concept developed through long-range studies that examine successful aging. There are multiple dimensions to whole-person wellness, including physical, emotional, social, spiritual, intellectual and vocational.
Vi continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs) offer independent living with a combination of a private residence, services, amenities and care (for example, assisted living, memory support care and skilled nursing care).
Late last year, Vi commissioned a report by Ken Dychtwald Ph.D., renowned gerontologist, psychologist, best-selling author, and CEO of Age Wave that challenges the “prevailing myths and misperceptions” about CCRC living. The report, “The Five Myths and Realities of Continuing Care Retirement Communities,” is available in its entirety at http://www.ViLiving.com.
