June may seem like a flat month for shopping and saving, when in fact, it’s a better time to buy a number of homeowner must-haves versus any other time of year.

Past June shopping trends will be the leading influence for deals and coupons that publish at FatWallet this month. After modest growth in sales made through FatWallet in June between Memorial Day and Father’s Day from 2007 to 2009, purchases for power tools, auto parts and car maintenance products, as well as DYI home improvement needs have risen sharply during this timeframe by more than 65% since 2010. Stores like Home Depot, Lowe’s, Sears and other hardware-focused retailers have taken notice of rejuvenated consumer spending by increasing cash back rewards and offering hard-to-resist storewide discounts from 30-70% off, free shipping and/or in-store pickup and other bonuses and rebates this time of year.

“June may seem like a flat month for shopping and saving, when in fact, it’s a better time to buy a number of homeowner must-haves versus any other time of year,” stated Brent Shelton, FatWallet Spokesperson. “Recent growth in online sales for tools and home improvement products in June are a direct result of our promotions. FatWallet members know that increased cash back stacked with exclusive coupons on these bigger ticket items creates measurable savings for their families.”

Other retail trends expected this June include heavy sales of air conditioners and home items like cookware, dishware and decor coinciding with gift giving events such as graduations and weddings. The home and garden category has seen more than 45% growth in purchases made through FatWallet since 2010. Tech will see some spikes on select models in electronics and mobile devices, especially with the popular release of the new Samsung Galaxy S4 and T-Mobile expanding to offer iPhones at lower pricing than their competitors. Cash back and targeted coupons for Dads and Grads sales events should help to stimulate tech retail sales for smartphones, tablets and laptops in early June.

“With three weeks of sales events for these categories, consumers have time to shop smarter by comparing the variety of savings offered to them,” continued Shelton. “Every retailer will have products priced to get shoppers’ attention, so it’s a great time to buy gear for the guys."
