Seattle, WA (PRWEB) March 05, 2013
FedTax, home of TaxCloud, the fastest-growing sales tax management service, today announced that Russ Brubaker has joined the company as Vice President of Government Affairs. Mr. Brubaker brings more than twenty-five years of experience as a state revenue official to the role.
“We are honored that Russ accepted this position,” said R. David L. Campbell, Chief Executive Officer. “His widely recognized expertise in shaping responsible state and local tax policy will be invaluable as we continue to enhance TaxCloud and help state governments make collecting sales tax easy for retailers.”
Mr. Brubaker comes to FedTax from the Washington State Department of Revenue, where he served as Senior Assistant Director for Tax Policy and National Tax Policy Advisor. He is also a past president of the Streamlined Sales Tax Governing Board, has testified before Congress on tax policy matters, and has chaired several nonprofit boards and City of Seattle task forces. In 2011 Mr. Brubaker was awarded the Wade Anderson Memorial Medal for Leadership in Interstate Tax Cooperation, presented jointly by the Federation of Tax Administrators and Multistate Tax Commission.
“I am excited to join an innovative company that provides high-quality, easy-to-use services for businesses and that also works hard for good public policy,” said Mr. Brubaker. “Having worked with FedTax on remote sales tax collection issues for several years, I know firsthand their integrity and quality.”
Mr. Brubaker will be working closely with Joan Wagnon, Executive Vice President at FedTax. “Russ provided innovative leadership as president of the Streamlined Sales Tax Governing Board and was known as a problem solver in the Washington State Department of Revenue,” said Ms. Wagnon. “His skills and talents will be very helpful in working with states to implement the Marketplace Fairness Act this year.”
The Marketplace Fairness Act, introduced in Congress on February 14, will enable states to require online retailers to collect sales tax, provided those states first take specific steps to simplify their sales tax laws. The bill also mandates that states provide free sales tax software for retailers and test and certify that software. FedTax, whose sales tax management service, TaxCloud, has already been certified by twenty-four states, will be working closely with states to make sure collecting sales tax is easy for online retailers.
At FedTax, we believe that technology can make it easy for any business to calculate and collect sales tax. We also believe that businesses shouldn't have to spend a penny on collecting sales tax.
