Fresh Start Law Center, California’s leading criminal expungement law firm, has reported that criminal expungement petitions have increased by more than 200% over the last year in California. According to David Huffman, founding partner of Fresh Start Law Center, the large increase can be attributed to the continuing economic crisis, and the resulting dire employment market. “The fact is that it is extremely tough today to find employment, and it becomes exponentially more difficult if you have any type of criminal record,” stated Huffman, “but luckily there is statutory relief in California that allows people to expunge their criminal records, giving them equal footing with other job applicants in the market.”
Fresh Start Law Center stated that the large increase was not related to any one particular record clearing services they offer, but rather the increase has been seen across their entire spectrum of services, including: criminal expungement for all types of convictions, juvenile criminal record expungement, certificate of rehabilitation, arrest record sealing, and early termination of probation services. “We have really seen an increase in people’s desire to put their criminal past behind them for good,” stated Huffman, “and the type of criminal pasts we encounter daily vary drastically from person to person, but we can usually find a way to help them put their criminal past behind them.”
There has been such an increase in the need for expungement services in California that Fresh Start Law Center launched a new website last week dedicated to criminal expungement services in California. “There was just such an overwhelming need for expungement information and services, that we felt it was necessary to launch a website that could satisfy that need,” stated Huffman, “we invested a lot of money into the site, and hope that it serves as the leading source in California for criminal expungement information.” Besides offering a wealth of information on California expungement laws, the website also offers a free online assessment that will direct a user to the exact expungement service their particular situation qualifies for, according to Huffman.
“We expect that criminal expungement in California will continue to be in hot demand as long as the economy and job market continue to slump,” stated Huffman, “and we feel it is important for people to know that there is relief out there that will allow them to more easily find employment when they have a criminal record.”
