FGI Finance helps to sponsor Student Doctor For a Day

NEW YORK (Business Wire EON/PRWEB ) November 5, 2008 -- FGI Finance (www.fgifinance.com) helped sponsor the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (www.umdnj.edu) in Newarks, Student Doctor for a Day," on October 26, 2008 at the Liberty Science Center in Jersey City. The program, hosted by student doctors from the University, allowed children from Jersey City, Hoboken, North Bergen and Secaucus and many other New Jersey towns to participate in an interactive career day. In fact, the program reached out to and actively worked with the Abbott schools, which represent New Jersey's 31 poorest school districts, to organize and encourage students from those areas to attend.

We focus our efforts on recruiting participants from underserved communities in order to increase their access and exposure to medical education so that we can empower young students from these populations to develop the necessary competencies for the pursuit of higher education and careers in the biomedical sciences, said Leila Mady, one of the event coordinators.

News Image Children were able to participate in various hands-on activities such as how to wear a soft cast, viewing dissected animal organs, radiology demonstrations and one-on-one counseling to the students to help guide them towards the best high school courses to prepare them for a career in medicine.

FGI Finance sponsored the stethoscopes that were handed out to each child at the event. The event was wonderful! The kids loved the stethoscopes! We really could not have done it without the support of FGI Finance, said Mady.
