“We couldn’t imagine a better way to both assist in the preservation of the environment and help our customers save money”

Effective immediately, online retailer FidoDogTreats.com, is shipping all orders in 100% reused packaging. Upon receipt of customer orders, dog treats and chews will be packed and cushioned in crumpled newspaper and then placed in clean, previously used corrugated cardboard boxes prior to shipping. This eliminates the need for materials such as polystyrene peanuts and the manufacture of new boxes.
“A sensible, proactive program of reduced environmental impact and greater responsibility is an essential element of our business model,” said FidoDogTreats.com co-founder Emma Zemba. She added “We expect that our customers will be gratified to know that the unnecessary consumption of natural resources was not required prior to the shipment of their order.”
Reused packaging also makes good business sense as the costs of packaging materials and boxes are typically added onto the freight charges paid by customers. “We couldn’t imagine a better way to both assist in the preservation of the environment and help our customers save money,” said Zemba.
Instead of discarding the boxes that individual manufacturers and distributors use to ship their products to, the cardboard containers are simply re-packed with the appropriate products for customer orders and sent on their way. Reused, donated newspaper provides the shock absorption required to keep the packaged dog treats and chews safe from the rigors of transit. Although the concept is simple, it is expected to save thousands of boxes from being unnecessarily manufactured. Additionally, the need for thousands of cubic feet of petroleum based packing materials, including bubble wrap, has been eliminated.
