Anderson—an independent consultant who had worked in bank operations and information technology—launched the company from the East Tennessee State University Innovation Lab with the goal of developing software specifically for the financial community. The Innovation Lab’s business “incubator” provided a supportive environment that propelled Banc Intranets toward success. It wasn’t long before the startup developed its flagship product: BankWorks, a user-friendly intranet that gives employees instant and convenient access to corporate information. Her husband, Mark Anderson—a former head of information technology for a bank, joined the company in 2004. In 2009, Banc Intranets became the first successful firm to “graduate” from the Innovation Lab. It has continued to build on that legacy.
