Last Stand™ Fire Protection System Saves Home From Wildfire Without Risking Lives

A Californian home-owner has been talking about how a revolutionary unmanned home defense system - the Last Stand™ - saved his home from the recent wildfires.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) October 8, 2009 -- Homeowner Tim Macdonald recently tested the Last Stand™ fire protection system at his upscale home in Briggs Terrace, one of the main sites of the Los Angeles wildfire in September. Built by Improvx Systems & Development, the Last Stand™ works with a home's swimming pool, using the water to create a wet barrier around the home when threatened by fire.

Unlike other products, it offers 360 degree coverage of up to 120 feet - without the need for it to be manually operated. That's a total of 45,000 square feet of coverage - enough to surround a large family home and property. While competitor products often claim large area coverage by including the length of the hose, the Last Stand™ can reach 120 feet from its nozzle tip.

As the wildfire approached Tim's home near Glendale, ImprovX set up the Last Stand™. He said: "Three friends (two of whom are firefighters) and I stayed at my home for 60 hours straight and came in direct harm's way of the fire three times. We set up the Last Stand™ to shoot over my six car garage and guest house. It was capable of hitting the tops of my pine trees that sat between us and the fire and it saturated the entire area, allowing us to check the property for hotspots while it tackled the visible threat."

Tim said: "Although the Last Stand™ is unmanned once set up, I wanted to stay with my house to see how it worked. I was worried the firefighters would evacuate me, but it worked so well, no fire truck was assigned to my property. After seeing what the Last Stand™ could do, I would have been just as confident of my home's safety if I'd had to evacuate.

"During the course of four days, firefighters that had heard about our set up came by to check out the Last Stand™ and were all very impressed."

Frederic Bollens, creator of the Last Stand™, says he designed the system after hearing from so many people whose homes had been damaged or destroyed from southern California wildfires, with only their full swimming pool remaining untouched. "A swimming pool holds, on average, 25 times the amount of water a fire truck does. Why let it go to waste while the brave firefighters are tackling blazes elsewhere before they can make it to your home?"
