By now, everyone knows that the federal government has extended the $8000 tax credit for first time home buyers and even expanded it for non first time home buyers. But purchasing your first home can be an overwhelming experience for anyone, especially in the midst of the biggest economic crisis since the great depression. The media reports say that we’re in an economic recession, yet the National Association of Realtors indicates that it’s the best time to buy a house in decades. So how does a person trying to make one of the biggest financial decisions of their life sort through all this seemingly different information in order to make a good home buying decision?
Many people in North Denver have attended the First Time Home Buyer classes at the Arvada Library to find answers. The purpose of the class is to provide a relaxed educational format for first time home buyers, who have real questions about how to qualify for the $8000 tax credit, secure a good loan from a reputable lender, take advantage of down payment assistance programs, and in general learn about the process of purchasing a home. “We’ve had about 72 people attend the classes so far,” said class instructor Jim Lyons, “and the overwhelming response seems to be that people walk away with a better sense of how to buy a home in this economy.”
Although the classes are sponsored by Keller Williams Realty of Westminster, Colorado and Premier Mortgage Group, the focus is strictly educational. “We go into a fair amount of detail about the tax credit and financing your first home,” commented Mitch Friedman of Premier Mortgage. “This is important stuff,” says Friedman, “and if there’s anything the economy has taught us, it’s that there is a right way and a wrong way to purchase real estate.” The goal of the class is to arm individuals with the right knowledge to make the right decisions for themselves, so their real estate purchases will become a successful part of their future financial growth plan.
The classes are open to the public and held on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at the Arvada Public Library from 7-8:30 pm. For more information about the classes or the $8000 Tax credit, visit http://www.cfthb.com or call 720-581-0342. Seating is limited to 20 participants per class, so registration is requested.
