Fisher Investments released political commentary regarding the upcoming elections in November. The video, which is available on Fisher Investments YouTube channel, discusses political dynamics, campaign strategies and what to expect in the months ahead.
Regarding potential outcomes, CEO and Investment Policy Committee member Ken Fisher points out that Democrats have a structural edge in the presidential race. “Normally America tends to re-elect incumbents much more often than not, and the incumbent always has natural advantages,” explains Ken. But the same does not apply for Congressional races, where the Republicans seem poised to gain ground. “Every Senate race has a natural advantage for one party over the other, and this time the natural advantage is to the Republicans,” Ken continues and goes on to explain why.
The video is an excerpt from Fisher Investments semi-annual Capital Markets Update featuring the firm’s five-member Investment Policy Committee (IPC). The members are CEO and Co-Chief Investment Officer Ken Fisher, Vice Chairman and Co-Chief Investment Officer Jeff Silk, Vice Chairman Andrew Teufel and Research Managers Bill Glaser and Aaron Anderson. The IPC oversees Fisher Investments’ portfolio strategy, in-house research efforts, portfolio engineering and capital markets technology development.
Fisher Investments also released an updated infographic illustrating how the stock market tends to behave during election years. The Fisher Investments Elections Infographic offers interesting perspective with a history of S&P 500 returns during each presidency since 1926.
