According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. According to Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, over 2 million heart attacks and strokes, leading to 800,000 deaths each year. That attributes to 1 in 3 deaths directly related from heart disease and strokes. Thus, February is American Hearth Month, whose goal is to bring awareness and education to the pitfalls of cardiovascular disease.
Daphne Fit Body Boot Camp owner Steven Hadley’s goal is to help the residents of Alabama lose 100,000 lbs. by 2025. Thus, the Daphne fitness boot camp owner believes that it is very important to provide support and bring awareness to February’s American Hearth Month. Daphne Fit Body Boot Camp has created a 3 week fitness program for only $29. All of the proceeds from the program will be donated to the Thomas Hospital Heart Center to raise funds to support their on-going patient education program. The promotion will last the entire month of February.
"Education material is ever evolving and new material will help us to better educate our patients. We appreciate the opportunity that Steven at Fit Body Boot Camp has presented,” said Jill Everson, Manager of Thomas Hospital’s Cardiac Health & Rehab Center. “Our program at Thomas Hospital is exercise based with an emphasis on education. Our goal is to educate our patients on the causes of heart disease and help them make the lifestyle changes that pertain to them."
"While I think it is very important to prevent heart disease, I also know the importance of education in preventing future heart ailments. As time and research change, it is important that we educate patients in a way that will give them the best chance of transitioning into a healthy lifestyle while dealing with heart disease, said Hadley, the Daphne gym owner. “I want to do all I can with Fit Body Boot Camp to assist in this effort, which is why I am offering a low cost program in which all the proceeds will go towards purchasing brand new education materials for the entire year for Thomas Hospital Cardiac Rehab."
