Recent changes in the Google algorithm has led SEO consultant Rick Porter to test various website designs and factors to analyze how user engagement and on page metrics are now measured. A year ago having strong onpage signals and lots of quality backlinks was all it took to rank a website on page 1.
Today Rick Porter notes that there are now more factors that are also weighing heavily on Google rankings such as user engagement, user metrics, social signals, and Google authorship just to name a few. The fitness boot camp marketing website that Porter launched was designed to specifically analyze whether curated video content could be ranked high if a Youtube style theme was used. Porter chose the Covert VideoPress Theme for this test with the thought that having a similar layout to Youtube could potentially keep someone on the website longer. Aside from the layout a number of other factors are being tested on the boot camp marketing website.
"I needed a great source of personal trainer and boot camp marketing content so I chose to curate the content of fitness boot camp marketing expert Bedros Keuilian. With his permission I'll be posting his videos on the website and analyzing the traffic that I send to the site to measure page views and time spent on site. There are over 25 different data points that I will be tracking in this test over the next 6 months" explained Porter.
Another part of the test is to see how quickly an exact match domain can rank for a keyword if it is in full compliance with Google and offers quality content.
"Content curation has actually become very popular recently. If a website can properly curate content on a particular topic then it can actually provide a good user experience for someone that wants a lot of the same topic in one place. I thought that curating information on how to market a fitness boot camp would be valuable to many personal trainers out there, plus I could get a gauge on whether it could send more traffic to the website of the owners of the curated content" said Porter.
The fitness boot camp marketing site currently has about 12 videos and is already ranking for several keywords in the fitness niche. Porter plans on adding over 100 videos while categorizing them into subtopics such as personal trainer marketing, boot camp marketing, fitness marketing strategies, and Bedros Keuilian fitness marketing reviews.
