Intex Natural Products, the parent company and sole owner of FLOBAX, a liquid daily supplement intended for chronic back pain sufferers, has conducted a systematic review analyzing the effects of collagen on conditions causing chronic back pain - and the results are positive.
The company announced today that it has found credible clinical studies proving that hydrolyzed collagen (Type II) is effective in reducing inflammation and swelling in conditions causing back pain, as well as in rebuilding connective tissues and in regenerating damaged cartilage, when consumed over a period of 12 months.
The studies concluded that patients with significant levels of chronic back pain showed a substantial decrease in stiffness and increased mobility after consistent intake of a collagen supplement.
"The studies have paid off and FLOBAX is now in a position to help treat a world suffering from chronic back pain," says Dominic V. Petrilli, CEO of Intex Natural Products and inventor of FLOBAX. "Nothing on the market today helps regenerate or rebuild cartilage or connective tissues like FLOBAX. We were fascinated by collagen and we conducted thorough studies to ensure we had the proper dosage and type of collagen required to maximize efficacy, and the results are promising.”
Collagen: Why All the Fuss?
Collagen is a family of highly fibrous proteins found in all animals, and is the most abundant type of protein found in mammals, constituting up to 25% of the total protein mass. It is found in all types of connective tissues, from skin and bones, to tendons, cartilage, and ligaments.
The main types of collagen in these tissues are Types I, II, III, V, and IX. Type I is the principle collagen found in skin and bone and is by far the most abundant type found in the body (representing 90% of body collagen). Type II, however, is the key, for it is found in the cartilage lining and protecting every joint in the body. Most musculoskeletal degenerative diseases, including osteoarthritis, spinal stenosis, and degenerative disk disease, involve the breakdown of this cartilage and therefore a breakdown of the Type II collagen matrix.
With age, the body’s inability to produce and regenerate these collagen matrices leads to wear and tear on the joints, causing pain, stiffness, decreased function, and sometimes even deformities due to joint misalignments.
What Can You Do to Stop the Deterioration?
The extensive work of Dr. John Prudden, M.D., F.A.C.S., have proven that bovine collagen supplements, one of the key active ingredients in FLOBAX, have a beneficial and healing effect on the collagen matrix found in joint cartilage. The results proved true in patients with a wide variety of conditions ranging from psoriasis, skin ulcers, arthritis, and rheumatism. These benefits are made possible through the natural healing process of the blood vessels, heart, and skin, which is essentially a process of collagen synthesis and remodeling. In short, the results show that collagen intake, through supplements such as FLOBAX, stimulates the natural repair process of rebuilding and reinforcing the body’s connective tissues.
Intex Natural Products has stated that it will continue to research the latest advances in collagen studies so as to be able to deliver effective and evidence-based products that will positively impact the world in controlling chronic pain and its underlying conditions.
