Memory on Demand, LLC announces the Beta release of Focus GPS, an Apple iPad app designed to enhance the memory, concentration, and organizational capabilities of children and adults with ADHD.
Focus GPS, currently in testing with children and adults who have ADHD, supports three critical executive functions: memory, concentration, and organization. The software permits ADHD users to easily step through complex thought processes and effectively manage shifting priorities. This Beta version of Focus GPS is the culmination of 20 years of daily use, testing, and continual improvements.
The founder of Memory on Demand, Ray E. Omholt, suffered a stroke in 1990 that damaged his executive functions. In the years following, he researched the working of the brain and its ability to remember, concentrate, and organize facts and thoughts. Based on his research and over twenty years of empirical development, Omholt created Focus GPS, the software he now uses daily to support his memory and increase his organizational capabilities.
Omholt explains, “My software discoveries made it possible for me to lead a normal life in spite of the damage to my executive functions resulting from my stroke, so it seemed reasonable to me to think that these discoveries could very well be equally valuable to others faced with similar problems.”
Based on this conviction, Omholt founded Memory on Demand in 2010, a company dedicated to the development of executive-function apps for pads, smartphones, and desktop computers to strengthen the academic and cognitive performance of children and adults with ADHD.
Memory on Demand, LLC, does not stand alone in recognizing the needs of individuals with ADHD for special support. Nationally recognized ADHD experts such as Dr. Edward Hallowell, M.D., Dr. Ruth Hughes, CEO of CHADD (Children and Adults with ADHD) ,and Dr. L. Alan Sroufe, professor emeritus at the University of Minnesota, have all publically stated that children with ADHD can benefit from support above and beyond that provided by medications alone, however helpful such medications may be.
Focus GPS recognizes and capitalizes on the ways that the brain and eyes work together. Its patent pending design greatly simplifies the prioritization and analysis of thoughts, tasks, and decisions by utilizing side-by-side (pair-wise) comparisons which enable users to rapidly organize and accurately prioritize unrelated complex thoughts, considerations, and action items.
