There is a major gap in the market today for high quality research and investment analysis of companies that are still private, but on a path toward an IPO
McLean, Va. and Boston (Vocus) October 14, 2010
Folio Investing, the unique online brokerage optimized for portfolio investing, and research firm IPO Candy announced today that they have teamed together to offer the “IPO Candy Folio” -- a portfolio of recently listed stocks of growth companies in technology and related sectors. The new portfolio expands the selection of pre-made portfolios available to customers of Folio Investing, and is the first that focuses on newly public companies.
Folio Investing is an online brokerage that enables investors to create custom investment portfolios, called “Folios,” that are diversified like mutual funds but are more personalized, tax efficient, and less costly. Investors may design their own Folios, select from an array of the brokerage’s pre-designed Folios, or choose to follow any of more than 30 portfolio models from third-party investment researchers and advisors.
IPO Candy is a new innovative service that provides information, research and analysis on companies before, during and immediately after their initial public offerings. The new Folio combines IPO Candy’s proprietary research and “Intrinsic Valuation” methodology with Folio Investing’s low-cost portfolio management system.
“There is a major gap in the market today for high quality research and investment analysis of companies that are still private, but on a path toward an IPO,” said Kris Tuttle, founder and chief executive officer of IPO Candy. “Even months after a successful IPO, coverage and investor attention can be limited. IPO Candy lives in this gap to take advantage of the inefficiencies there.”
“We have been looking for an efficient, investor-friendly platform to open up our best research ideas to the broad community of investors,” said Tuttle. “By integrating with the Folio Investing platform, investors can now buy and rebalance cloned portfolios in a single transaction for a low fixed cost, instead of making many individual trades, thus making the entire process simple and affordable.”
Folio Investing provides commission-free trading to customers using a patented window trading process for the low fee of $29 monthly, or $290 annually. Because the platform allows trading of whole and fractional shares, customers may invest any dollar amount and have the funds automatically distributed at set percentage weights across all of the stocks in a portfolio.
The IPO Candy Folio will be updated monthly. “With our one-click portfolio updates and commission-free trading, we make investing in this and other portfolios easy and inexpensive,” said Blaine McLaughlin, vice president of Folio Investing. “We are very pleased that IPO Candy has chosen Folio Investing to empower investors to put their smart money portfolio strategies into place.”
