Global Foodservice Industry Revenues to Reach $2.2 trillion by 2015, According to New Report by Global Industry Analysts, Inc.

GIA announces the release of a comprehensive global report on Foodservice Industry. The size of the foodservice industry, and share of the industry as a percentage of the total food-spend varies widely across different regions around the world. As such, foodservice accounts for about 45%-50% of total spending on food in the US, while the percentage in lesser-developed markets can be in the range of 10%-15% or less of total spending on food. The main contributors to growth in the industry include socio-economic conditions of people such as high disposable income, busy and increased mobile life, rise in outsourcing of non-core activities by companies and market expansion into new areas like transport and retail.

San Jose, CA (PRWEB) June 23, 2009 -- Global Foodservice Industry is projected to reach $2.2 trillion in revenues by 2015. The global foodservice market comprises of over 8 million outlets comprising of small family owned units to large multinational chains operating thousands of stores worldwide. The cost of food also varies widely depending on the outlet; with full service restaurants (FSR) having the highest cost per meal served and managed foodservice/ contract catering having the cheapest rates. Even the margins differ for each type of outlet. While FSRs tend to have higher margins, quick service/ low service restaurants and managed foodservice/ contract catering sectors have lower margins, and thrive on volumes.

The United States represent the largest market for Foodservice, as stated by the new market research report. Driven by increasing disposable incomes, and changing lifestyles, Asia-Pacific is expected to offer the highest growth potential for foodservice.

The foodservice industry is one of the largest employers around the world. Major issues affecting the industry include decreasing corporate spending, rising food costs, contamination, rising energy costs, and labor among others. Due to high competition and various challenges, there is a lot of innovation, branding and consolidation taking place in foodservice industry. New, healthy and diversified menus are being introduced combined together with branded products. The difference among channels is getting blurred and is leading to new channels like gastro pubs, satellite outlets and self-service kiosks while increasing the reach of consumers.

Quick Service Restaurants Market is the largest and the fastest growing foodservice segment. The higher value proposition, and novelty in menus offered by quick service restaurants is cushioning the segment from the present economic downturn. The global full service restaurants market is being affected by the economic downturn. As such, the market is expected to offer relatively lower growth opportunity over the period 2006-2015.
