Post Office Travel Money's new Long Haul Holiday Report 2010 has revealed that Sri Lanka, Mexico and Kenya offer the best value for money to UK holidaymakers seeking winter sun.
Last year's best value destination, Thailand, fell to fifth position in this year's table. The strength of the Thai baht resulted in higher costs in Phuket. According to the Post Office Travel Money report, Kenya is the only long haul destination where sterling is worth more than a year ago helping foreign currency to go further. This could make Kenya a popular choice for those UK travellers seeking to make the most of their travel money.
Post Office Travel Money reminds UK holidaymakers that they can find more competitive foreign exchange rates by purchasing foreign currency in advance, and avoiding any commission fees often incurred when picking up foreign currency at the airport.
Sarah Munro, Post Office Head of Travel Money, said: "The information we have collected shows that Sri Lanka and Mexico offer excellent value for money. People should avoid wasting cash through last minute airport foreign currency purchases."
