Today, Fortisware announced the public availability of PST Finder, its new PST file scanning and management utility. PST Finder is a unique stand-alone software utility designed for use by an IT professional to locate, collect and archive PST files created by Microsoft Outlook, providing administrators with a simple and cost-effective solution for determining the extent of unmanaged e-mail storage files and taking control of them through archiving and data-import functionality.

TAKE BACK CONTROL OF USER EMAIL ARCHIVING
According to an Information Week survey of 864 business technology professionals (Information Week, 2008), a full 60% of survey respondents said their users store PST files on their local computers. Yet only 34% of the respondents said they expressly allow PST files to be used for e-mail archiving, and another 31% said they don’t have a policy at all.

PST Finder can help implement and enforce PST-management policies through its search and collection abilities, ferreting out unknown and unmanaged PST files on users’ workstations and centralizing them at managed storage locations.

The application also provides easy import of individual PST files into Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 and Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 RTM, allowing administrators to restore manually-archived mail back into users’ mailboxes, e.g., for use with Exchange 2010 online archiving features.

LEVERAGE PST FILES FOR ON-BOARDING USERS TO EXCHANGE
PST Finder’s flexible import functionality can be leveraged for migrating Outlook users currently using disparate or feature-light e-mail systems on to Exchange Server 2007 or Exchange Server 2010. Simply collect the PST files containing their downloaded e-mail and then use the unique owner-assignment feature to import into the correct Exchange mailboxes, regardless of their naming convention or associated user account. This makes PST Finder a valuable tool for businesses looking to move up to Exchange.

LOW-IMPACT DESIGN MINIMIZES FOOTPRINT, DEPLOYMENT COSTS
PST Finder’s unique architecture was specifically designed to eliminate the need for installing client software across the network or on the Exchange Servers, by leveraging native, pre-installed Windows and Exchange management components. PST Finder requires only installation on a single computer and remote management access to the computers to be scanned. In the end, a decreased TCO -- as there are no complex roll-outs of client software to end-users or heavy-weight components installed on mail servers.

DETAILED REPORTING PROVIDES RICH AND EXPORTABLE DATA
PST Finder’s built-in reporting features provide detailed information on both scanning and archiving, including domain-level summary totals; itemized file location, ownership and modification information; and the full results of any archiving and importing. Easy to read reports can be exported to several common file formats for sharing and data processing in other tools – a useful compliance resource for monitoring and maintaining compliance with corporate PST management policies.

AVAILABILITY AND PRICING
PST Finder is available immediately and includes one year of support and updates in the purchase price. Pricing starts at $500 for managing up to 25 computers with scaled discount for larger quantities. A 30-day trial version is also available for evaluation purposes.
