Becker Animal Hospital and Pet Resort is taking its pet care on the road in February, providing a day of free vaccinations on the city’s South Side, longtime San Antonio veterinarian Dr. Michael Becker, DVM, has announced.

Staffers from the animal hospital will leave their veterinary complex in northwestern San Antonio, to provide the first of a series of community service vaccination events planned this year. The traveling team will set up shop at the Super Wal-Mart at SE Military Drive (SE Military and Roosevelt), from 9 am to 1 pm on Saturday, Febr. 18, 2012.

Free rabies and distemper vaccinations will be provided to the first 100 dogs registered for the event, with a limit of two dogs for each family. Other vaccines, including bordetella, canine flue, rattlesnake and Lyme, will also be available at a low cost.

A free city license will be mailed to those who get their pets vaccinated.

The free shots are limited to families who live on the city’s South Side, south of the east-west line of IH-10/U.S. 90. Online registration begins at noon on Monday, Feb. 6, at the Becker Animal Hospital website.

“In 2012, we are reaching out to the San Antonio community, outside our traditional service area, with a series of public service events,” Becker said. “We’re committed not only to our own patients and pet owners, but to the city as a whole as it deals with various animal care issues.”

Becker Animal Hospital and Pet Resort recently announced the addition of a seventh full-time veterinarian, giving the huge San Antonio veterinary care complex the largest medical staff of any locally-owned facility in the metro area. And the animal care and pet boarding center, which handles more than 35,000 pet visits a year, has also expanded its international talent pool, with more than half the staff veterinarians now bringing skills from around the globe.
