Video monetization technology company FreeWheel and Turner Broadcasting System, Inc., today formalized an agreement that gives Turner's online properties including CNN.com, NASCAR.com, NBA.com and PGATOUR.com the ability to effectively manage and monetize their digital video content. This follows a successful implementation of FreeWheel's flagship product, Monetization Rights Management® (MRM) on the redesigned CNN.com, which led all news and information Web sites with 89.1 million video streams in November.

In addition to Turner, FreeWheel is now inserting and tracking the effectiveness of all ads on VEVO, the premium music video and entertainment service created in partnership by Universal Music Group (UMG), Sony Music Entertainment (SME) and the Abu Dhabi Media Company. FreeWheel has previously announced agreements with platforms and publishers including CBS Television Distribution, Warner Music Group, Discovery Networks International, and blip.tv.

"As advertisers continue to search for ways to further engage consumers, digital video growth remains a key element of Turner's overall digital strategy," said Walker Jacobs, senior vice president, Turner Sports and Entertainment Digital Ad Sales. "Our partners value Turner's premium branded content delivered to target audiences at scale across our digital portfolio of brands, and the ability to anticipate and quickly respond to our clients' video needs gives Turner a distinct advantage in the marketplace."

MRM is an online video technology that empowers content owners and distributors to manage advertising sales rights, produce accurate inventory forecasts, optimize for maximum revenue, deliver the right set of ads, and analyze video business performance. The system is emerging at a time when publishers and distributors need full and flexible control over the advertising placed around premium content.

"It's no secret that our strategy is built around effective distribution," said Fred Santarpia, General Manager of VEVO. "FreeWheel's flexible advertising technology lets VEVO enable brand advertisers to reach our audience of music and entertainment programming fans regardless of where they are within our syndicated ecosystem while maintaining a consistent, quality user experience. In today's video-driven marketplace, successful media companies require a sophisticated sales and delivery infrastructure that manages the entire distribution footprint. With MRM, FreeWheel delivers exactly that, and couples it with the highest level of client service we've experienced."

"We were given the opportunity to work with some fantastic companies in 2009 and we're excited to grow those relationships and work with even more first-class publishers in 2010," said Doug Knopper, Co-CEO of FreeWheel. "MRM has driven revenue and efficiency, and we'll continue to refine that technology, integrate with even more platforms and partners, and innovate with new products this coming year."
