Fresh Coat Painters has opened its first franchise in Indiana with the launch of Mel Niemeier’s business to serve Carmel, Fishers, Noblesville, Westfield, Zionsville, Brownsburg, Avon, Geist and other communities in and around Indianapolis.
Niemeier said his commitment to quality led him to Fresh Coat after researching multiple franchise opportunities.
“Fresh Coat fit my personality,” he said. “I’m very detail-oriented, very particular. In painting, for example, I can see even the slightest difference in shades of color. I looked at a lot of different franchises. I wanted to be in a business where the end-user is also the payer, with few accounts receivable. My satisfaction is rooted in how the client feels about the service. I don’t want any dissatisfied clients.”
Bernie Brozek, president of Fresh Coat, said that commitment to the client is one that resonates with all the franchise owners.

Niemeier said he’s found that his painters also appreciate the format.
“As painters, they’re committed to that job,” he said, “and they’re very interested in working full-time without having to worry about going out and finding the next job. They like being employees with vacations and sick leave just like other employees.”
Niemeier said his clients benefit, too, in that all employees pass background checks and are fully insured and bonded – another difference between Fresh Coat and its competitors.
He’s also pleased that he will be able to share the business with his wife, Monica, a native of Colombia.
“We want to reach out to the Hispanic community,” Niemeier said. “Contrary to what some people believe, not all Hispanics are Mexican. We know a lot of people from South America who are doctors, lawyers and engineers. Monica will be helping in the business doing much of the record-keeping and working with her connections to reach out to the Hispanic community throughout the region.”
Before buying the franchise, Niemeier said he investigated dozens of other service industries including janitorial, home health care and carpet cleaning, but after decades in management, he saw the potential for long-term success with Fresh Coat because of its proven system.
“I find it very hard to work for somebody else because I want to react to clients’ needs quickly,” he said. “With Fresh Coat, I could see that all the pieces fit together in the puzzle. As an owner, I don’t have to rely on luck as much. Fresh Coat provides the manuals, materials, everything to provide ongoing support. And the managers always want to be helpful. On my own – or with some of the other franchises – I’d make too many mistakes. Most of us don’t have enough money or enough time to get past those mistakes.
