On Saturday, February 21, 2009, Full Sail University (fullsail.edu) was proud to serve as the location for A Gift For Teaching's (http://www.agiftforteaching.org ) annual fundraising event, "Lights, Candles, Auction," which welcomed nearly 300 guests and raised over $40,000 to benefit the mission of this non-profit organization.
Held throughout several soundstages on the Full Sail University campus, and emceed by Mitch English of the nationally syndicated morning talk show, The Daily Buzz, the evening served as a celebration of A Gift For Teaching's ten-year birthday and commitment to providing supplies for students and teachers in the local school community. Sponsored by Bright House Networks, the event offered guests the opportunity to participate in a themed Hollywood-style evening including red carpet interviews, live music, raffles, a silent auction, and showcased Crayon Masterpieces created by local school students.
Since opening in September of 1998, A Gift For Teaching has grown to serve 333 schools in Orange, Osceola and Seminole Counties, and has distributed more than $41 million worth of school supplies to local teachers and students in need.
"Full Sail has always been committed to providing the tools necessary for our students to succeed in the real world," said Kristin Weissman, Director of Public Relations for Full Sail University. "Working with A Gift For Teaching and supporting their educational mission of doing the same which enables students to thrive inside and outside the classroom, made this a natural partnership. The work that A Gift For Teaching contributes to the Central Florida community is invaluable and we were honored to serve as a part of this milestone celebration."
Jane Thompson, President of A Gift For Teaching said, "For ten years the community has rallied around A Gift For Teaching in support of equal education opportunities and it's no secret that students, teachers and schools need our help more than ever. To have Full Sail, our amazing sponsors and devoted supporters come together to donate their time, talents, space and money at this event is humbling and definitely something to celebrate."
