The funds raised during this campaign will benefit the lives of thousands of animals just waiting for the right forever family to find them and give them a loving home.

Homeless pets all over the U.S. can sleep a little bit better tonight knowing the PETCO Foundation met its fundraising goal of $3 million to support local shelters across the nation.

Fifty percent of the funds raised during the campaign will immediately go to the thousands of grassroots organizations already partnered with PETCO stores and the PETCO Foundation. The other half of the donations will be provided to animal welfare organizations in the areas where the money was raised during the balance of the year.

"It is so incredible that we were able to meet our $3 million goal this year, especially with the current economic situation," said Beth Mars, director of operations and development for the PETCO Foundation. "The funds raised during this campaign will benefit the lives of thousands of animals just waiting for the right forever family to find them and give them a loving home."

The Foundation partnered with IAMS this year to raise funds for the Foundation and help IAMS with its annual Home 4 the Holidays adoption drive to ensure a successful fundraiser and help further promote the adoption of homeless animals throughout the holidays. IAMS donated $1 for every bag of IAMS cat or dog food sold at PETCO stores during the campaign, in addition to providing all promotional signage used in PETCO stores.

The total donated from IAMS - including both signage and food-related donations - totaled approximately $110,000. In addition, the Home 4 the Holidays campaign led to the adoption of more than 1,200,000 companion animals, beating their goal of adopting out 1 million animals during the holiday season.

PETCO encourages customers to consider adoption before the purchase of any companion animal - even if it's one of the birds, reptiles or small animals currently offered in PETCO stores. The company also encourages anyone looking to give a pet as a gift, for any occasion, to consider a gift card so that the recipient may choose their next companion animal themselves.
