Bel Furniture is a Texas-based, owned, and operated company with a dedicated customer base of hardworking families and individuals. To show their gratitude for years of loyal support, Bel Furniture helps local families in need by contributing to charitable organizations like Pathway of Del Rio and the San Antonio Food Bank. Recently, Bel sent a group of team members to the Houston Food Bank to spend a Saturday unloading and storing frozen food and preparing care packages. Coleman Callahan, Bel’s General Manager, was present once again and proud to be a part of the fight against hunger.
“The Houston Food Bank is an organization that is very dear to our hearts,” said Callahan. “As a company that calls Houston its home, we are proud to give back to the communities we serve and help the Food Bank reach its weekly goal.”
The Houston Food Bank is a respected and well-run organization that strives to feed over 137,000 people each week throughout 18 southeast Texas counties, a goal that it simply cannot accomplish alone. Volunteers are critical to their success. Many families that receive support from the food bank have young children and struggle to survive on incomes that are below the Federal poverty level.
“As a father, it pains me to know that children in Houston are going to school hungry,” says Sid Mollai, President of Bel Furniture. “My daughters and I were honored to help, even if just for a few hours, and we plan to return on a quarterly basis with the rest of the team.”
The Bel family will also continue to sponsor events that celebrate diverse cultures in the Houston area. Recently, a Bel Sugar Land store manager and one other team member gave out prizes at a special booth during the 2013 International Festival of Fort Bend, a family-friendly gathering that honors various cultures in that area. This fall and winter, Bel will hold its annual “12 Days of BELieving” over the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. This unique charity campaign asks customers to nominate families in need to receive new home furnishings. Bel’s customers are encouraged to visit their website, Facebook, and Twitter pages to learn more about ongoing and upcoming charity work.
