The Garland Company, Inc., a local employee-owned manufacturer of high-performance solutions for the commercial building envelope, is dedicating an entire week to raising money in support of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Garland’s third annual Spirit Week is being held June 4-8 at its headquarters located at 3800 E. 91st Street in Cleveland.

The week – themed “Catch the Wave” – will consist of various fund-raising activities, including temporarily redecorating the offices using a boardwalk theme, eating contests, Minute-To-Win-It games, garbage can races, and a silent auction. All proceeds from the week will benefit St. Jude and its mission of finding cures and saving children.

“It’s amazing to see our entire office rally together in support of such a great cause. This is the third year we’ve held Spirit Week and it seems to be getting bigger and better each year,” said Dave Sokol, president of Garland Industries, Inc.

St. Jude treats children fighting cancer and other deadly diseases with pioneering research and exceptional care. No family every pays St. Jude for anything; St. Jude covers the cost of treatment, travel, lodging and food for each patient and a family member. Since opening its doors 50 years ago, St. Jude has developed protocols that have helped push overall survival rates for childhood cancers from less than 20 percent in 1962 to 80 percent today.

“The Garland Company has created such a fun event to engage its employees in the mission of St. Jude,” said Karen White, senior vice president of corporate alliances at ALSAC/St. Jude. “We are able to ensure that families never pay St. Jude for anything because of events like Spirit Week and the generous support of everyone who participates.”

The week’s events include:

  • Monday – Boardwalk Theme Office Decorating Day and Potluck Lunch
  • Tuesday – Biggest Loser Reveal and Eating Contests
  • Wednesday – Minute-to-Win-It Games
  • Thursday – Chinese Auction
  • Friday – Garbage Can Races and Silent Auction
