While I’m both honored and humbled to be selected by the ABA for this distinction, I’m especially pleased to see the ABA Journal recognize attorneys who have made contributions in technology.

Garland Brown, co-founder of the Scottsdale law firm Weiss Brown, has been selected by the American Bar Association Journal as one of “America’s tech-iest lawyers.” The distinction was awarded to Mr. Brown for his knowledge of technology and his ability to seamlessly blend the Microsoft and Apple platforms, a challenge rarely accomplished within the legal industry. The ABA Journal recognized Mr. Brown not only for his ability to successfully enable the different software platforms to work effectively together but also for his achievement in enhancing and improving their functionality.
“While I’m both honored and humbled to be selected by the ABA for this distinction, I’m especially pleased to see the ABA Journal recognize attorneys who have made contributions in technology. Since technology plays an increasingly important role in the lives of our clients, deeply embedding technology in our law practice is naturally instinctive to us. I’m particularly proud to be on the forefront of this movement,” said Mr. Brown.
Among Mr. Brown’s unique credentials are many years of experience working at Microsoft in Redmond, Washington as both a lead software development engineer and as a Director in Antitrust Compliance Law before practicing law at one of the world’s largest law firms. His unusual combination of technology and legal knowledge later prompted Mr. Brown to partner with Scott Weiss to form a law firm devoted to business and technology law in Scottsdale, assisting emerging technology-based companies, entrepreneurs and established businesses.
“When I decided to launch my own Internet-based legal research/regulatory intelligence company, I hired Garland. He is the IT guru for his firm and an exceptional attorney. The combination was exactly what I needed to make certain my new business venture got started on a strong footing.” said Laura Carpenter, founder of BulaLaw, a legal research company.
When asked what sets the firm apart, Mr. Brown attributes its success to the use of “practical legal guidance, with a healthy dose of technology and business smarts.”
