Crowds gather at the Mission Bell Amphitheater for a day of festivities.

We have a wonderful day planned with great music, delicious food, and, of course, a spectacular fireworks show.

Celebrate Independence Day at Gateway Canyons on Sunday, July 3, beginning at 7:00 PM. With no streetlights or light pollution, every night at the western Colorado resort is dazzling, but on Sunday, July 3, an exuberant display of patriotic flamboyance bursts onto Mother Nature’s nighttime canvas. While the fireworks are an event highlight, the celebration also includes music at Gateway Canyons’ outdoor amphitheater and a dinner of hearty barbeque specialties served al fresco. For this event only, the resort is offering visitors a firecracker deal that bundles lodging, Independence Day events, and leisure-time pursuits starting at $87.50 per person excluding taxes.

With the Fourth of July falling on a Monday this year, Gateway Canyons has chosen to celebrate the nation’s independence one day early so that guests can relax and enjoy the festivities without an early start for work the next day. “We’re excited to be celebrating Independence Day on Sunday, July 3 this year because it enables our resort guests and visitors from surrounding communities to fully enjoy one of the most anticipated holidays of the summer season,” said Tammy Anderson, Director of Lodging and Guest Experience at Gateway Canyons. “We have a wonderful day planned with great music, delicious food, and, of course, a spectacular fireworks show.”

Guests are invited to stay overnight with the Gateway Canyons Independence Day Package, which combines lodging and activities with the Fourth of July events starting at only $87.50 per person excluding taxes (based on double occupancy). The resort package includes one night’s accommodation in one of Gateway Canyons’ comfortable guest rooms, two tickets to the Independence Day festivities, and 20 percent off either a treatment at The Spa at Gateway Canyons or an activity scheduled through the Adventure Center at Gateway Canyons. Adventure Center activities include mountain biking, horseback riding, off-road tours, rafting, kayaking, fly fishing, climbing and hiking.

A premium package is also available which includes overnight accommodations in the upscale Kiva Lodge, a 40-minute scenic air tour in a luxurious Cessna Caravan airplane with Gateway Canyons Air Tours, a bottle of Colorado wine, the barbeque dinner, admission to the concert, fireworks, and a $50.00 resort credit per person. Price starts at $257 per person based on double occupancy, excluding tax and gratuity.

Headlining the summer holiday’s musical entertainment at the Mission Bell Amphitheater is the David Starr Band. The group is a Colorado music scene crowd-pleaser and has shared the stage with such artists as Bobby Mason, members of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Travis Tritt and Clint Black. Veteran musician David Starr plays multiple instruments and sings lead vocals. The David Starr Band will be performing from 7:00 – 9:45 PM.

Beginning at 7:00 PM, guests can fill their plates and their stomachs with mouth-watering barbeque specialties including baby back pork ribs, turkey legs and chicken. Potato and pasta salads, watermelon, corn on the cob and baked beans are also on the menu. Finally, at dark (approximately 9:45 PM), look skyward for a dazzling display of patriotic color superimposed on the star-studded sky over Gateway Canyons.
