iGaymer is expanding it's offering with new design, social networking, contests and podcast. Whether into video games, comics, sci-fi, fantasy, anime or beyond, LGBT and LGBT-friendly geeks will find something to love on iGaymer.com.
iGaymer.com originally launched last summer as a community-based website for like-minded gay geeks to interact, striving to be a haven free of the homophobia that haunts other sites. Listening to member feedback, Manhattan-based designer and iGaymer creator Steve "StevieSpin" Lunny soon planned the next version of the site to include the most-requested features. "Social networking was in higher demand. Members wanted enhanced ways of interacting and keeping in touch aside from the forum," says Mr. Lunny.
In March 2009, disaster struck the site in the form of massive data loss. "It was devastating, so much data was unrecoverable. Once we were done pouting, though, we decided to harness this as an opportunity to redesign the site in a way that would leverage all the features our members wanted most," Steve Lunny said.
iGaymer.com is launching the new design alongside a contest for one lucky member to win a new Nintendo DSi. Simply joining the site, creating a profile and posting in the forum automatically enters members in the contest. After the contest's close on June 30, 2009, the iGaymer staff will select a member for outstanding contribution to the community with a DSi as the prize.
The iGaymer Podcast is another exciting new addition. Hosted by StevieSpin and invited iGaymer members, the 'cast will showcase industry interviews, news of the day, contests and offer a new way for members to interact with iGaymer via a toll-free voicemail number 1-888-398-GEEK(4335).
iGaymer is also excited one of the LGBT gaming websites brought in to act in an advisory capacity on GLAAD's new Project on Homophobia in Virtual Communities. This new initiative aims to change the culture of homophobia that is all-too prevalent in online gaming and communities.
