Just like teens in the south Bronx are spreading the word about healthy eating, tonight’s event helps spread the word about GrowNYC and our hands-on programs and resources New Yorkers can take advantage of to make more sustainable choices...
New York, NY (Vocus/PRWEB) February 02, 2011
Generously donating his time and giving back a portion of sales proceeds, Peter Guttman gave a mini travel tour through his photographs, which represent a selection of images taken on his adventures around the globe. Curated by Brigitte Saint-Ouen of 32 Fine Arts, 20% of the sale of all photographs went to support LGE. Says Peter Guttman, "I feel blessed to have traveled the globe and explored the remote cultures of the world. My experiences have painted a vivid sense of how fortunate our own lifetsyles are and compel me to give back in some small measure the gifts of beauty that I've enjoyed."
In addition to hosting the benefit, GeoArt placed retail orders on its recently debuted sterling silver and mother of pearl jewelry collection, Orient Fleur, which was inspired by the community gardens of GrowNYC. For orders placed during the evening, one hundred percent of the proceeds were donated back to LGE. Guests were delighted with their purchase of jewelry with meaning, with pieces depicting dragonfly and floral motifs. GeoArt will also donate 10% of annual 2011 sales on Orient Fleur to LGE, supporting the group’s year-round efforts, including a 6-week intensive summer internship. Says Marcel Van Ooyen, Director of GrowNYC, “We’re so grateful to Cynthia and the GeoArt team for their support of GrowNYC’s ‘Learn It, Grow It, Eat It’ program. Just like teens in the south Bronx are spreading the word about healthy eating in their community, tonight’s event helps spread the word about GrowNYC and our hands-on programs and resources New Yorkers can take advantage of to make more sustainable choices and improve quality of life.” The teens themselves were at the event, engaging attendees in mini-workshops such as “Are You O-Ding?: How Much Sugar is in your Drink?” or “The Road to High Blood Pressure is Paved in Salt,” both of which help participants read labels and re-think their food and beverage consumption choices.
A generous sponsor of the event, many thanks are given to 'Wichcraft for their donation of delicious antipasto, cheese and sweets for the benefit. The go-to New York sandwich shop, 'Wichcraft uses greenmarket vegetables whenever possible and is known for its exceptional attention to the use of fresh, high quality ingredients. A successful and educational evening for all, the Benefit for the “Learn It, Grow It, Eat It” program was surely a night to remember.
