In her latest blog post, Stacy discusses how she wanted to assist a friend with her goal to quit smoking. During her research, she found an interesting article by Reuters.

The article discusses how exercise may depress the body’s withdrawal and therefore kick the cravings that prevent so many people from giving up their cigarettes. With cravings being the most common reason people fail to give up, Stacy believes that introducing exercise into a daily routine makes perfect sense.

However, from a biological standpoint, Stacy remains unconvinced.

“My personal opinion, for what it’s worth, is that smoking is simply incompatible with exercise. You’re breathing harder, your lungs are working, and your hands are often busy. Your mind isn’t focused on smoking and your body doesn’t need the nicotine to de-stress because it’s getting a healthy dose of your feel-good endorphins,” she says.

Another option is to go ‘cold turkey’ and simply tough-out the cravings and urge to reach for a cigarette; something that proves very successful for some people.

Bringing the discussion back to exercise, Stacy explains that she will be getting her friend to join her for morning exercise, as that is when her cravings are the strongest.

“I get to introduce my best bud to the incredible value of HIIT and she gets to beat an addiction that’s had her down for 10 years. It’s a win-win and I couldn’t be happier!” she adds.

Concluding her latest blog post, Stacy strongly encourages smokers to find a walking buddy and begin the long process of giving up, for the better.
