In her latest blog post, Stacy explains that, while a healthy body is nice, a healthy brain is vital to continued health and fitness.
A recent article in US News and World Report advertised the mental benefits of working out. This included the release of ‘feel good’ chemicals including serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine.
“Now we’re learning that it actually improves the structure of your brain and keeps your cells from aging as quickly. The cells of women who work out vigorously for at least 45 minutes a week don’t show as many signs of aging as women who are stressed and inactive,” Stacy explains.
The article also stated that burning at least 350 calories a week, using methods strenuous enough to work up a sweat, has the same effect on depression as antidepressants.
This produces the perfect balance as the brain is releasing of the chemical it requires for someone to be happy, while their body is getting a strenuous workout and keeping fit!
In the long term, this can reduce feelings of depression, improve attention span and enhance coordination and concentration.
Summing up her latest blog post, Stacy says:
“Exercise aint just good for your bod! Now we know that it makes your brain work better and can make you happier, too. Really, how many more reasons do you need to get up and get moving?”
